"Art For Your Sweetheart"
Saturday, Feb. 12th!
 
Come in and enjoy the "Art for Your Sweetheart"  to showcase the art on display at the TAG Art Gallery.

Several of the guild's artists will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to demonstrate their art, which ranges from watercolor paintings to clay sculptures and knit hats to beaded jewelry. Punch, cheese and cookies will be served. Pictured at top right is an eclectic art heart by Julie Allshouse of Sparta. 
 
Kathleen St. Germain, watercolor artist from Warrens, will be painting with watercolors, Harriet Oklen, artist and poet from Tomah will be painting, Julie Allshouse, ecletic artist from Sparta, will be painting an ocean scene on a window, Monica Genske, artist and poet from Warrnes, will be creating valentine cards and bookmarks. 
 
Our special featured Artist of the Month, Fred Weiner will be doing sketching for his historical art. Fred has a unique way of bringing to life the early logging camps, steam railroads, civil war times and early cranberry days. During February, Fred is offering 15 percent off his artwork for anyone with an iBuyMoCo savers card! (Excludes note cards.) About Bards and Ballads

The Bards and Ballads' aim is to foster and promote local stories and storytellers. A variety of style and content are delivered in an intimate theatre which allows the audience to be part of the presentation. The show is performed by professional musicians from Wisconsin who showcase original material that is germane to the Wisconsin experience. This years host is Patchouli. WRAP SHOW 

Tomah Art Guild deems its first WRAP Show a super success.  Twelve entries and 35 pieces of art work made a splendid exhibit in the Area Community Theater’s second floor reception area.  Juror watercolorist  Ellen Roles of LaCrosse gave an interactive informative  presentation  lauded by all in attendance.

State award winners, Gail Hitchcock of Elroy, Joan Walker of Humbird,  Fred Wiener of Warrens and Craig Zahrte of Warrens  have qualified for  the State Exhibit held in Madison the end of September. Honorable Mention Awards went to  Malinda Flock, Sparta, Del Lucka, Tomah, Judith Pulaski, Elroy, and Lillian Marie Ruda, Merrillan.

Congratulations to all for a job well done!

 

Tomah Arts Guild

Celebrated their 1st Anniversary!

 

The Tomah Arts Guild marked its first anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with an open house at the TAG Art Gallery in the Tomah Area Community Theatre, and also with displays at Main Street Ink and Toner and the Tomah Area Historical Society in downtown Tomah.

Free painting lessons given by Del Lucka (who stepped in for Marilyn Kortbein) was a big hit. Visitors were able to enjoy doing a fun art project with a wide variety of art materials.  Also offered was a mini class in origami, by Mary Genske.

Along with drinks, food and refreshments, visitors signed up to win a basket of various art pieces including a ceramic jar, jewelry, prints, notecards, snacks and  more! The winner of our gift basket was Nina Langland from Warrens, WI., congratulations! 

 

The Tomah Arts Guild is open to all area artists and supporters of the arts. Currently, there is no fee to be a TAG member. Interested artists can also showcase their art in the TAG Gallery for just $10 per month.

 

 "HARK THE FESTIVE NIGHTS"

Thank you for all of those who joined us for an evening of music and fun!  Wisconsin group, EnRoute Music returned to the ACT stage as the evening feature of music and laughter!   

Joining the Janesville-based folk musicians was special guest musician, Andy Kramer. The TAG Art Gallery was open through the evening and guests were able to purchase original pieces of art by local artists!  

 

 

TAG hosts the thrid 'Bards and Ballads'

Friday, March 2nd at 7:00pm

Yata Peinovich, an award winning musician from Durand, Wisconsin has been performing for 40 years.  He has recorded 7 CD’s and appeared on ‘Prairie Home Companion’ with Garrison Keillor.  Yata is considered a Folk Musician who has opened for the likes of Tom Paxton, Claudia Schmidt and John Hammond Jr.

The Tomah Arts Guild is proud to have Yata host ‘Bards and Ballads 3’ March 2nd at 7:00pm at the Area Community Theater in Tomah, Wisconsin.

Local poets, Bards and Storytellers will be featured as Yata plays from his latest CD and other selections. ‘Bards and Ballads’ promotes the  oral traditions as they relate to the greater Monroe County area and Wisconsin in general. ‘Bards and Ballads’ is hosted by musical entertainers with original material that live in Wisconsin.

 2012 Tomah WRAP Show exhibit winners and workshop

The Tomah Arts Guild announces winners of their recent Wisconsin Regional Art Exhibit held on the second floor of the Area Community Theatre in April and May.  It was a fun day which began with fellowship, coffee and laughter in the morning followed by a workshop lead by TAG's own, Craig Zahrte who challenged artists to stretch their skills and abilities. Juror, Julie Millin, a long time instructor from the Tomah High School, gave offered her expertise, positive feedback and insights for critiques of participant's works.

 The Black River Falls Wisconsin Regional Art Program exhibit held their largest-ever annual WRAP show at the Black River Falls library. TAG Vice President Ginny Schuld was coordinator for the event. During the month of August, the library meeting room was filled with artwork from many local area artists giving visitors a chance to see the display of artistic talent the region has to offer.  Several Tomah Arts Guild members participated in the event to help support the arts in neighboring Jackson county. Participants enjoyed a hands-on workshop, fellowship, art critiques and award presentations by presenter and juror, Jen Sweeney.

The fourth annual WRAP Exhibit sponsored by TAG is now on display! As a special celebration of the Arts, the 313th Army Band Ensemble from Birmingham, Alabama will be performing a concert on Friday, May 9th from 3 to 6pm.  The wonderful chamber music performance will feature members of the 313th Army Band under the direction of Band Commander W01 William Green. Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) is an art exhibit administered by the UW-Madison's Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts. WRAP exhibits began in 1940 to encourage creative growth of Wisconsin's non-professional artists from rural areas. 

Exhibits are held throughout the year and include a workshop day for participating artists and the public. A guest artist gives a lecture or demonstration and critique of the exhibited artwork.  State Award works are eligible to exhibit at the 2014 Annual State Art Exhibition and Conference which will be held in September at the Center for Visual Art in Wausau, WI.

"Decorative Painting for Everyone" will teach the basics of brushes, designs and flower strokes. The class will meet Wednesdays for five weeks, starting Sept. 28. An afternoon class from 1 to 4 p.m. and an evening session from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. will be held at the Tomah Area Community Theatre.  

The cost is $70, which includes a kit containing six brushes, 10 paints and basic supplies. Register by Sept. 5 so materials can be ordered in time for the first class. A $30 deposit is required at the time of registration.

 

    A 3-week "Christmas Decorative Painting" will be offered on Wednesdays, starting Nov. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 4th grade classroom, 310 W. Elizabeth Street, Tomah. The cost is $50, plus some additional materials may be required. Registrations are due Oct. 12.

CHRISTMAS GINGERBREAD PAINTING CLASS

 

Marilyn Kortbein will be teaching a three week class for all painters including beginners: October 25, November 1 and 8, 2012

Learn to paint Gingerbread people on a wooden sled centerpiece (or wall decoration) and miniature designs on miniature sled ornaments. Class includes: Instruction, 2 projects and general materials. Course fee is $60.00. Bring your own brushes and general painting supplies (basecoat brushes, sandpaper, etc.). #1 liner brush, #3 round brush and #6 - 12 flat brush will be available for purchase if you do not have them.

     Mike Quick returns to the Tomah Area Community Theatre as the musical Host of 'Bards and Ballads’ a presentation highlighting local poets and storytellers. Quick, a singer, songwriter and guitarist was a featured guest of the Tomah Arts Guild’s performance ‘Hark the Festive Nights’ last fall. Quick has been writing and performing music for over thirty years. He has performed original folk and blues style music both nationally and internationally in a variety of venues.
